FAQ's

We know that some of our customers have very specific questions. We try to answer them here, and to break down some of our industry terms. If you have any other questions, you can always contact our team of residential electricians.

  • How long are EICR valid for?

For landlords, EICR are valid for five years. After five years, they must be renewed by a residential electrician.

However, for homeowners who are not letting a property or planning to sell, it is recommended to get an EICR every 10 years.

  • I need an emergency electrician. Do you offer emergency electrical services?

We do not offer emergency electrical services for our domestic work.

  • Are EICR mandatory?

Yes! In fact, EICR are mandatory for letting or selling a property. Ignoring the mandated repairs can result in an up to £30k fine from the local authority and possible prison sentences. This is why you should get in touch with our residential electricians as soon as possible.

The deadline for new tenancies to have a valid EICR started in July 2020. EICR’s have been mandated for existing tenancies since 1 April 2021. We think our residential electricians can help you save costs in the long run.

  • How quickly do landlords have to provide an EICR?

You’ll appreciate our team of residential electricians’ prompt response. We can help you maintain strict government standards, especially because landlords must provide tenants with a copy of their EICR within 28 days.

Landlords must provide an EICR request from the local authority within 7 days. If you are a landlord who needs an EICR quickly, contact our team of residential electricians.

If landlords fail to respond to the EICR, tenants can appeal to the local authority to do the work, which would result in a fine of the landlord later to recoup the cost.

But if you get in touch with our team of residential electricians, we can make sure the property is safe and secure as quickly as possible.

  • Do I need to apply for Planning permission for electrical work?

In general, making a major change to a building, like an extension, or changing the use of the building requires planning permission, which you can apply for at the planning permission website. Our residential electricians can ensure that your next electrical work, or extension, follows the local authority guidelines.

For structures in conservation areas, we recommend that you contact your local authority and the conservation officer. You can find more information at Historic England, and their page dedicated to electrical renovation.

Where necessary, our team of residential electricians can do a full survey of the site before we start our work.

  • Do you do PAT testing?

No. Unfortunately, our residential electricians do not carry out PAT testing.
