FAQ's

Some of our customers have questions about the work we do. That’s why we have a section for frequently asked questions. We try to break down industry terms and talk about regulations. But if you have any questions don’t hesitate to call. Get in touch with our Park Gate team today to get a quote on fire and security systems.

  • How much notice must landlords give tenants to replace fire alarms?

48 hours. After that point, landlords can legally enter the premises.

  • When do landlords have to test alarms?

Landlords have to check their alarms on the first day of every tenancy. After that, tenants should test their own alarms, preferably every month. If landlords don’t check alarms, they could face a fine of up to £5,000.  Don’t get lax on the fire and security of your property. Give us a call.

  • What certificates do I need to demonstrate electrical compliance?

In order to prove that we’ve met British Standards for Electrical safety, we’ll offer you certificates of our work.

If we’ve installed a new circuit or a fuse box, you’d need an Electrical Installation Certificate and a Part P certificate.

If we’ve added or changed an existing circuit in a room*, we’ll offer you a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (MEIWC) along with a Part P certificate.

We can also provide MEIWC and Part P certificates for work on circuits in kitchens or outdoors. Look at our aftercare and testing for more information about our work with EICRs. At Eco Electrical, we ensure that fire and security standards are high.

*applies to rooms with a bath, shower, swimming pool, or sauna heater.

  • What is the Electrical Installation Certificate?

The Electrical Installation Certificate is a safety certificate that we will issue that confirms our compliance with BS 7671 standards. It’s legally required for any new installation. We’ll keep a copy of the certificate and submit our certificate to the person who has ordered the work. At Eco Electrical, we try to maintain the highest standards for fire and security.

  • What is BS 5839?

BS 5839 refers to codes for fire detection and alarm systems for buildings. The BS 5839 codes establish practices for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of these systems.

As part of our accreditations, we follow strict British standards for fire and security.

  • Who needs to be notified about electrical work?

As the installer, Eco Electrical will notify the local authority if any of our work is ‘high risk’. ‘High risk’ work includes new electrical circuits, replacement fuse boxes, alterations to existing circuits with showers, baths, swimming pools or saunas.

But our accredited service means that we understand council and building codes for fire and security so that you never have to worry.
